Nassau

So the quick and dirty on Nassau: the water is beautiful. The people and crafts are beautiful. The folks who know how — or have been trained how — to provide “service” are generally in the nicer resorts. And as with many island nations, everything operates on Island Time. Things will generally not move rapidly, to include meal times. If you have an appointment or a reservation, best not to look too closely at the minute hand.

Getting There

We flew in from Washington, DC in July 2024 and landed at Nassau International Airport. Our pre-arranged driver met us and had chilled Bahama Mamas ready for the troops. From the airport, it was about a thirty-minute drive to Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, where we spent most of the trip. But we started with one night near Junkanoo Beach in downtown Nassau — definitely a different vibe.

The Rest of It

Another morning was spent on jet skis. A lot of time at the beach and the Aquaventure Water Park. Some of us left some money in the casino; some of us took some home. The golf course alone is worth a look — ocean views from every hole.

We did have a great family vacation, and it was rated as one of the top trips by the “teen to adult” crowd — who weren’t really paying their share, but were respectful. It’s a good adventure, as long as you know what to expect going in: nothing is included, everything is expensive, and island time is the only time zone that matters.

Oh, and try the Guava Duff for dessert.
